What is urogynecology?

Urogynecology is a subspecialty of OB/GYN that focuses on diagnosing and treating incontinence and pelvic floor disorders. 

Dr. Devine is the only three-year fellowship-trained urogynecologist in the Sarasota area. After completing his OB/GYN residency, Dr. Devine was accepted into the urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery fellowship program with Dr. Donald Ostergard at the University of California, Irvine. 

After completing his fellowship training, Dr. Devine went into private practice in Akron, Ohio. In 2016, Dr. Devine relocated to Southwest Florida and opened his practice in Venice.

What happens during a urogynecology exam?

The specifics of your urogynecology exam at the Center for Urogynecology and Female Pelvic Health depends on your symptoms and health issues. Dr. Devine schedules long appointments for first-time patients and consultations so he can gather as much information as possible.

During your urogynecology exam, Dr. Devine reviews your symptoms as well as your gynecological, obstetric, medical, and surgical history. He then performs a physical and pelvic exam and may request diagnostic tests to confirm or rule out a suspected diagnosis. 

Testing may include urinalysis, blood work, or an ultrasound.

Dr. Devine is an experienced urogynecologist. He develops personalized treatment plans based on your diagnosis, symptoms, medical history, and personal preferences. He educates you about your diagnosis and treatment options so you can make an informed decision on how best to proceed.
